Only the micro version of DD-WRT is supported on devices with 2MB flash memory. To fit in the limited space, this is a stripped-down firmware with only the most basic features. On such computers, users do not presume to be able to install additional software packages. Users are strongly advised to avoid purchasing devices with only 2MB of flash memory due to the restricted functionality of the micro edition.
Despite the micro version’s limitations in comparison to the complete version, if you already have a computer with 2MB of flash memory, upgrading the micro DD-WRT version is likely to add features that your device’s original firmware did not help.
The prefixes mini, tiny, std, and mega are not used in Atheros and Ralink builds. While 4MB is typically adequate for basic dd-wrt functions, such functions have had to be disabled on a few routers due to space constraints.

I have an old TP-Link router that has been failing frequently under the factory firmware, so I decided to install OpenWrt and see what all the fuss was about. I tried to load an older version onto it and got an 18005 error, which stopped the operation. I’ve tried all sorts of file renaming, recovery mode/manual tftp server loading, and non-US firmwares, as I’ve heard the reason it’s locked down is the whole access to unique radio settings issue that the FCC pushed and TP-Link might have misinterpreted. Have any of you managed to get the OpenWrt firmware to function on this device? If that’s the case, any clarification will be greatly appreciated. Everything I found on this site appears to be quite old, so I’m hoping there are some new tricks out there.
