The best I could come up with was to bind the mobile server as a client (Client-to-Site), but this gives it a second private IP address that changes every time it reconnects, and the remote server requires a constant IP address to see the mobile server. Another problem it poses is the need to reconnect the mobile server manually each time it disconnects (which is troublesome as no-one is techy enough to do this even though its a one button click). Is there a different approach that I’m not aware of? Or should I be submitting my resignation for this job?
Hey, Brad. The issue with this approach is that Cellular 4G hires NAT, and the public IP address is possibly shared by thousands of people. The mobile server IP is a Telstra-provided private address that essentially disables port forwarding. I’m aware that Telstra provides business plans that provide a real IP address for the server, but I’m not allowed to use it (for security reasons).

As far as I know, VPNs in a normal configuration (client to server) are not possible because the LTE dongle does not have a public IP address.

There will be a different VPN for clients to connect to the server network, which would already have all of the remote routers dialed in. This router, however, is behind the ISP’s router; however, it is controlled and under our power, so we should be able to make adjustments if necessary.
