For those who haven’t read it yet, here’s a link to it. I came across Eco’s essay some time ago and found it to be quite interesting. Given how difficult it is to describe fascism, I believe this essay effectively breaks down the philosophy into its constituent sections, allowing us to understand what fascism is all about. However, I don’t want to spread false information by mistake. So, can any fascist historian comment on the essay and whether or not it serves as a definition of fascism? 4 responses 91 percent upvoted by sharesavehidereport This discussion has been closed. Is the united states headed for a second civil war?

Syncretism and cultural assimilation processes are commonly regarded as constructive reinforcements to democratic and humanistic values, or so we are told. As a consequence, when I read Eco denouncing syncretism as a barrier to rather than a vehicle for more cultural change, I was slightly shocked. I’d like to know why he came up with this hypothesis. 2 answers Sign in or sign up to leave a comment on sharesavehidereport84 percent Upvoted Please log in. Create an account Sort by the strongest.

Neo-fascism is a post-World War II philosophy that incorporates fascism’s core elements. Ultranationalism, ethnic superiority, populism, authoritarianism, nativism, xenophobia, and anti-immigration sentiment are all common features of neo-fascism, as is opposition to liberal democracy, parliamentarianism, liberalism, Marxism, communism, and socialism. [1] Claims that a group is neo-fascist can be contentious, particularly when the word is used as a political slur. Some post-World War II regimes have been branded neo-fascist because of their authoritarian natures, as well as their obsession with and sympathies with fascist ideology and rituals. [two] [3] The term “post-fascism” has been applied to a number of European political parties that advocate for a modified form of fascism and engage in constitutional politics. [number four] [5] According to Jean-Yves Camus and Nicolas Lebourg, neo-fascist ideology arose in 1942, when the Third Reich invaded the Soviet Union and decided to refocus its propaganda on a Europeanist basis. [6] After World War II, neo-fascists discarded previous theories of ethnic inequalities within the white race in favor of a common euro-nationalist approach, reflected in Oswald Mosley’s Europe a Nation policy, which became both a myth and a utopia for them. [7] As a result, the following timeline can be drawn: an intellectual gestation prior to 1919; the historical history of fascism between 1919 and 1942, which occurred in many phases; and finally, neo-fascism from 1942 onwards. Robert quoted Umberto Eco and an article he wrote on fascism in the most recent episode of BTB (the birth of Spanish Fascism). Robert didn’t go into great detail about this in the episode, but it’s something I’d like to bring up for two reasons. Roberto Eco defines fascism as follows: https://www.openculture.com/2016/11/umberto-eco-creates-a-list-of-14-common-fascist-features.html Eco’s list, on the other hand, is more extreme. The most important challenge to the rule of law is fascism. As much as I hate the current state of American politics, it is much preferable to fascism.
