The current global pandemic has necessitated a change in how FIRST Tech Challenge teams compete in events – FTC Remote Events. The teams must accurately reflect their involvement in Remote Events if the events are to be successful. Teams are expected to conduct their own inspections and score their own matches in a fair and correct manner.
Unfortunately, FTC-Iowa has no means of stopping or preventing teams from abusing the ability to compete unfairly and dishonestly. For teams that “do the right thing,” we can only offer support and praise. It is not necessary for teams to participate in Playing Fair & Sharing Ideas; it is entirely optional.
Teams will be encouraged to share and post videos of their robot self-inspections and matches. Other teams and volunteers will be able to watch the videos for inspiration, collaboration, and teamwork. The FTC-Iowa will not re-score the matches or check the recordings. This is essentially to demonstrate to the FTC-Iowa group that the team is accountable, trustworthy, and open.

Some are interested in conducting experiments, while others are interested in developing and manufacturing new products, and still others are interested in conducting scientific research. There are also websites that demonstrate how to put together a fantastic science fair project.
Although all of these websites will provide you with ideas and guidance as you work on your project, the actual work is up to you! It is important that you have a thorough understanding of your subject so that you can respond to any questions the judges will have. But don’t expect to win any awards just because you came up with a “award-winning” idea on the Internet. The best fair projects are those that demonstrate your own imagination and innovation.
Often, don’t get caught up in anyone else’s footsteps. There are several science project websites that provide detailed instructions about what to do and how to do it. These aren’t the qualities of a professional scientist or a good science fair project. A successful science fair project begins with an idea, so by all means use the Internet for inspiration, just make sure to stay on your own road to a solution.
