The Wall Street Journal reports that the company spent approximately 600 million yuan (roughly $97 million) to construct an 853-foot-long structure that resembles the USS Enterprise from “Star Trek.” Aerial video taken by a drone shows how close the building in Changle, China’s southeastern capital, looks to the iconic starship.
Liu Dejian, the creator of NetDragon, is said to be a major “Star Trek” fan. Dejian graduated from the University of Kansas and serves on the board of Baidu, a Chinese web company. The company approached CBS for permission to model the building after the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E before construction began in 2010.

The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), also known as Enterprise-D, is a Star Trek starship. It is the main setting of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1994) and the film Star Trek Generations. It is commanded by Captain Jean-Luc Picard (1994). It has also spawned a slew of spinoffs, films, books, and licensed merchandise.
The Next Generation takes place 78 years after the events of the original Star Trek (1966–1969), which followed Captain James T. Kirk and the first starship Enterprise. Andrew Probert’s Enterprise-D is a reimagining of Matt Jefferies’ classic Enterprise design from the 1960s, portraying a ship capable of carrying a larger crew on a longer journey “to boldly go where no one has gone before.”
In October 1986, the Paramount Television Group and Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry announced the development of a new Star Trek series.
[3] The new ship was crucial because the Enterprise had become “just as vital to [the original Star Trek] as Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.”
[4] Unlike Captain Kirk, who led a five-year voyage, the new crew will be equipped for at least a ten-year mission.
[5] To make such a voyage possible, the new ship would be twice as long, eight times as large, and would accommodate the crew’s families.
[5] Roddenberry also wanted the ship to portray a higher standard of living for its crew: it would be brighter, less militaristic, and have sleeker, more refined interfaces than the original Enterprise.
[6] He wished for the Company to exemplify a balance between science and quality of life.

Star Trek: The Next Generation is an American science fiction television series that ran from 1987 to 1994 in the United States under the title Star Trek: The Next Generation. It is commonly abbreviated as TNG in fan circles. She is a Star Trek sequel series, and if the animated series The Enterprise is included, she makes up the third television series in the fictional Star Trek universe. The success of the first Star Trek cinema films and reruns of Raumschiff Enterprise were the key motivations for the film studio Paramount Pictures to create it.
The film, set in the 24th century and spanning seven seasons, tells the story of the crew of the Starfleet starship Enterprise-D, a sequel to the Enterprise spaceships from previous Star Trek productions. Discovering new and previously unknown ways of life, exploring alien cultures and phenomena in space, mediating and arbitrating social and intercultural disputes, and assisting with technological issues are among the missions. The United Federation of Planets and other forces occasionally engage in armed war.

The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) was a Federation Constitution-class starship owned by Starfleet in the twenty-first century. It was also the first ship with this registry to bear the name Enterprise. Captain Robert April commanded the ship from its launch in 2245 until 2250, when it was handed over to April’s First Officer Christopher Pike. (DIS: “Brother”; TAS: “The Counter-Clock Incident”)
Starfleet Command purposefully kept the Enterprise and its crew out of the fighting during the Klingon War because they found the Enterprise to be the “best of Starfleet” and wanted them to survive. (Project Daedalus, DIS)
The Enterprise was charged with researching one of a series of unexplained signals observed in the galaxy after the war ended in 2257. The Enterprise was towed back to spacedock after several catastrophic machine failures, and Pike was transferred to command the USS Discovery to continue the task of investigating the red bursts.
