My ASUS RT-AC68U AC1900 Dual Band 802.11ac Gigabit Router has recently started disconnecting for 5-15 seconds at a time. It happens every 5 minutes or so. My desktop computer is directly connected to the router, so the problem isn’t one of reception. And I was able to narrow down the issue to the router by connecting my PC directly to the modem, where I had no problems for over an hour. It appears to bottom for about 10ish seconds with my Task Manager’s Output tab/Ethernet viewer open before recovering. It normally disconnects me from a video game or triggers a minor video feed interruption. I tried unplugging the modem and router several times to let them cool down, but that didn’t help. The router was then reset. After you’ve created a new account, you’ll need to log in (I used the same password). The question didn’t go anywhere. I haven’t fiddled with any of my router’s settings. Before I did something, I decided to come here. I’m a complete noob when it comes to networking.
Update: I changed the firmware using the router’s IP address, but the problem persisted. Then, using the same router settings, I did a factory reset. I produced a new router name and password, but this did not solve the problem. The internet went down again while I was navigating the router settings, this time while I was clicking a connection, and the following message appeared: The choices have been changed. Reconnect to the wireless network and use the modified IP address and port number to access the RT-settings. Then I do some research and discover that D-default Link’s IP address is 192.168.0.1.

When I try to run Windows Network Diagnostics, it says there is no Ethernet connection, despite the fact that there is.

I last used my router on Monday or Tuesday of last week, when I rebooted it and was able to use it again immediately. I can no longer access it from any of the machines on my network. However, internet output seems to be unchanged, as I am still able to connect to the internet.
This isn’t a browser issue, and clearing the cache won’t help. I can’t get on from any phone, wired or wireless, and this includes computers with versions of Internet Explorer that haven’t been used in years, so there’s no cache to clear.
The last time I used the router, I did not change any port numbers or settings (or ever, in fact). The router’s IP address is still 192.168.1.1, but it is unavailable, according to the investigation. The issue is certainly with the router and not with any other equipment.
If I can stop it, I prefer not to restore to factory settings. Aside from the inconvenience of having to re-configure all of my static IPs and port forwarding, I’m worried that if the issue continues, I won’t be able to enter my ISP information and, as a result, would lose all internet access. But I can’t figure out how to get to my router right now.
