Since their introduction in 1987, GIF files have played a small but significant role in the Internet subculture. You’ve almost definitely come across such a picture at some point during your web browsing, and if you’re surfing the web on a regular basis, you’re probably coming across a lot of GIFs, MP4s, and WebM (one of the HTML5 standards) photos.
Moving wallpapers aren’t anything new, but not everyone understands how to use them. Continue reading to learn how to make a moving wallpaper on Android. So far, all has gone well, but how do GIFs and MP4s work with Android in particular? Thanks to a couple of applications, you can set almost any GIF or MP4 file as a wallpaper for your homescreen, demonstrating Android’s simplicity and openness once again. What’s not to like? There are billions of GIFs on the internet, and some of them are perfect for our mobile devices’ portrait homescreen layouts.
Some may argue, “But why not use one of the many live wallpaper apps available on the Play Store?” Of course, you have a point, but imagine finding a fantastic GIF that isn’t available as a standalone app for Android, forcing you to set it as a dynamic backdrop manually. True, the apps that allow you to do so usually come at a cost in terms of increased battery consumption and probably lower homescreen efficiency, but they’re still a fun way to personalize yet another aspect of your Android experience. So, without further ado, let’s get this party started! Solution 1: On Android, how to set a video (WebM, MP4) as a moving wallpaper

Live wallpapers have been available on Android since Eclair, but some newer apps have made this feature even more useful. You can now use GIFs as wallpaper, and you can even set a video as your home screen and lock screen backdrop, thanks to the wonders of modern technology. There are a number of apps that allow you to transform any video into a background wallpaper, but we tested them all and found the best one for you. You won’t have to think about the time limitations that live wallpapers and GIFs have. The only restrictions you must follow are those concerning file types: Your video must be in MP4 or 3GP format.
1st step: Look for a good video to use. To begin, you’ll need a video to use as your background. As I previously said, this video must be in either MP4 or 3GP format, but there’s one more complication. Otherwise, the video would be heavily cropped to fill out your entire home screen if it is not in portrait mode (vertical). I’m demonstrating with clips from this video as an example, but really, anything goes. Send the video to your phone once you’ve found a decent MP4 or 3GP video in portrait format.

On ICS, it tends to save directly to /data/data/com.android.settings/files/wallpaper. I’m not sure if this is the case on older systems. I chose mine from the browser, downloaded the file, modified the extension to.png, and voila, it was the picture I had chosen.
I was irritated by the same problem, so I created an app that saves both your wallpapers and your live wallpapers automatically. It’s easy to go back to a previous wallpaper. Wallpaper Saver is a free app from Appdictive that you can download from the Play Store. (Root access is not required.)
The stock wallpapers are stored in an apk file that can be found at /system/framework/framework-res.apk on your browser. Bring the file to your machine and look at its contents. A quest for a file with the word “wallpaper” in the title should yield results.
