Since it’s so unusual for Mozilla to do anything like that, I ran a virus search and tested what programs had been installed recently, assuming it’d been installed in the same way that IE users got the Ask Toolbar. That was exactly how I felt. What were they thinking, anyway? I’m a big fan of Mozilla, and I also sponsored their initiative to place ads on the start page of Firefox. Bundling Pocket and Hello with Firefox, on the other hand, is insane. Why don’t you make it a legitimate extension? > Why not make it an official extension? That way, users can easily disable or delete it. When Mozilla decides to bundle fad features like these after years of stripping existing features[1] out of Firefox, it says a lot about the business. During their attempt to dumb-down[2] Firefox, it was popular to hear that eliminating certain features wouldn’t make a difference because plugins should include them instead. The cheap reason seems to be disregarded when the function is used when it is most convenient. [1] I’m thinking about the many choices removed from the preferences dialog, some of which I’ve had to help a lot of friends work with. Much too many man-weeks have been wasted ;_;[2] which was a bad idea that hurts the enthusiasts who actually used those features, hinders inexperienced-but-interested users by hiding previously visible features behind addons.mozilla.org, and does little for the supposed target group of non-technical users who, by definition, don’t even use the preferences dialog.

By default, the Software Basic Compositor is used. To see if the OpenGL compositor is active, go to about:support and look under the “Graphics” section for “Compositing”: if it says “OpenGL,” it’s active; if it says “Basic,” it’s not.
Note: If OpenGL composition is disabled for a particular piece of hardware, it may be for a variety of reasons, including stability problems, high device resource usage, driver bugs, or any number of other factors, and instead of speeding things up, it could actually slow them down. At your own risk, force-enable it, and benchmark if you’re not sure.

There are no such things as “innocent” inquiries. If, on the other hand, you believe your question is a little silly, this is the place to ask it. Please limit yourself to easy, to-the-point questions that you believe people will be able to answer quickly. Prefer the other forums in the help section for lengthy and complex queries.
Wow, I’m in a bad mood! If I can’t get rid of this bloat, I’ll have to resort to Chrom! What would I do to get rid of this dreaded bloat? I went to about:config, but I couldn’t find browser.pocket.enable there. Other references to pocket were discovered and disabled, but it is still present. Argh!

Note that disabling Pocket does not delete any Recommended by Pocket entries from the New Tab page if they exist. If you’d like to get rid of those Pocket recommendations as well, go to the New Tab page’s top right corner and uncheck Recommended by Pocket.
