From 1814 to 1919, this essay discusses global diplomacy and, more precisely, the foreign affairs of the great powers. Minor countries’ foreign affairs are covered in their own history papers. From the end of the Napoleonic Wars and the Congress of Vienna (1814–15) to the end of World War I and the Paris Peace Conference, this period spans. See International Affairs, 1648–1814 for the previous century. See Foreign affairs (1919–1939) for the 1920s and 1930s.
As Napoleon’s hegemony in the Napoleonic Wars began to collapse in 1814, the four main European powers opposing the French Empire (Britain, Prussia, Russia, and Austria) began preparing for the postwar world. The Treaty of Chaumont, signed in March 1814, reaffirmed previous decisions that would be ratified by the more important Congress of Vienna in 1814–15. The restoration of the Bourbon kings of Spain, the enlargement of the Netherlands to include what became modern Belgium in 1830, and the extension of British subsidies to its allies were among them. The Treaty of Chaumont brought the world’s forces together to fight Napoleon, and it became the foundation of the Concert of Europe, which shaped the power balance for the next two decades. 3]4]3]3]3]3]3]3]3]3

Despite opposition from conventional members of the court and some of her fellow pages, Keladry has finally completed her page training. She has been promoted to Squire, but no knight has offered to be her sponsor or Knight-Master. Is she doomed to serve at the palace for the rest of her life? She’s not sure she can take it—spent she’s her whole life training to war, not to be a secretary. A spine-chilling fantasy of real-world origins and real-life relationships.

The adventure continues in the second installment of the New York Times bestselling series by Tamora Pierce, a fantasy author who is a legend in her own right.
The Protector of the Small series, a powerful classic that is more timely than ever, is about shattering the ceilings that others put above you.
Keladry of Mindelan is a force to be reckoned with as the first female page in history to complete the first year of knightly training. Kel’s battle to prove herself isn’t over yet. Her paralyzing vertigo, the arduous training schedule, and the sinister machinations of those who would rather she fail must all be overcome. Kel, on the other hand, shines in times of risk. The nobles of the kingdom are starting to wonder if she will achieve well beyond their wildest expectations. Those who despise the thought of a female knight are desperate, and would stop at nothing to stop her. Kel must prove herself twice as good as her male colleagues only to be deemed worthy in a groundbreaking quartet published years ahead of its time. A series about bravery, friendship, and a humane point of view, set against the backdrop of a mystical, action-packed fantasy adventure. ‘Tamora Pierce’s Tortall novels provide me with more warmth and fun than Game of Thrones.’ – From the Washington Post
