P.S. 214 students in the Bronx On Tuesday, elected officials joined students at the Lorraine Hansberry Academy (1970 W Farms Rd) for the unveiling of a new playground built by the students themselves.
The Trust for Public Land, which works with students to discuss their schoolyard aspirations, took the project to the school. A turf field, basketball hoops, a track, and some color to replace the once-bare blacktop were among the children’s dreams at P.S. 214.

The second day of the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT), a test that decides entry into each of New York City’s eight prestigious high schools, was October 24, 2010, the big day that thousands of eighth graders in New York had been waiting for.
A select group of 214X eighth graders applied and took the exam. However, only three of the few proved worthy and triumphed. The courageous eighth graders who took the test on February 11 received letters containing the words that predicted whether they would be attending a specialized high school in September or not. Reda Bouzidi, Charles Smith, and Tyrone Thomas, all of class 801, opened the letter to see if they had what it took to contend with the thousands of other eighth graders who took the exam around New York State.
Smith and Thomas were both accepted into Brooklyn Latin High School, but due to the gap, neither of them will be able to participate. Thomas will attend St. Raymond’s, a private school, and Smith will attend an all-boys school in the Bronx.
