How to port forward plex media server | remote access
Plex is a media streaming application that allows us to organize our media files and stream them whenever we want. The Plex Media Server can be downloaded from the Plex official repository. Install Plex from the Plex Official Repository on Ubuntu. Using the command: we can see whether the Plex Media Server is installed or not. sudo systemctl plexmediaserver status
Plex Media Server Firewall Configuration
After the installation has been checked, we must configure the firewall to allow traffic on the Plex media server’s defined ports. The measures to configure the firewall are as follows: We use the command to see whether the rules are set or not: ufw status verbose sudo

Allowing friends and family to share media through access to their local servers is a common way for people to use Plex. Port forwarding should be done while setting up your own Plex Media Server to enable access from the outside. You can access all of your media from wherever you have a data or wifi link to the internet if you set it up correctly.
To drive in and out of your local network, different types of traffic would need a different port. Consider the internet to be a highway, with separate lanes for different ports. You’ll need to configure port forwarding on your router to point to your server in order to get proper Plex traffic in and out of your network.
Plex will set the port to 32400 by default and will cause it to be forwarded to the destination via your router (in this case, your Plex server). You can manually select another unused port, but most users would not need to do so. It’s completely fair and quicker to leave the default port at 32400.
4. This will show both the server’s local and WAN IP addresses (what the outside world sees as your “home” IP address). Make a note of these figures for potential use. (Note that the numbers in our photo are fictitious)
Plex – how to port forward
Plex Media Server, as described in a recent warning from network monitoring firm Netscout, may have been used by cybercriminals to escalate DDoS attacks by reacting to UDP (User Datagram Protocol) requests from the public internet.
Usg port forwarding
According to Netscout, it discovered amplified Plex Media SSDP (PMSSDP) DDoS attack traffic aimed at various targets on exploited broadband internet access routers.
Plex’s latest hotfix would restrict its Media Server’s response to UDP requests only from the local network, not from the public internet, to prevent the bug from being exploited. The patch is available in Plex Media Server v18.104.22.16814 or later, and it can be downloaded from the Plex Media Server Downloads page by both public and beta users.

Older routers may have UPnP support, which may or may not function with new applications. If you can’t get the router to automatically configure the port-forward, contact the manufacturer or look on other forums for assistance. It’s likely that the problem can be fixed by upgrading the firmware.
You can configure your router to allocate the same IP address to the device every time it connects. In most cases, this is the more elegant choice. Specific instructions are beyond our ability to provide since they will differ depending on your router and circumstance.
Alternatively, instead of allowing your network information to be automatically configured, you can manually allocate it to the server’s device. For more details, visit your operating system’s support or numerous websites. Here are a few short links that might be useful:
You want to map the WAN/External Port (TCP) you want to the server’s local IP address, which is LAN/Internal Port 32400 (TCP). For guidance on how to forward a port, consult your router’s manual. You may also use a variety of online services.
