Dale H. Spaht was elected president of the Professional Insurance Agents of Louisiana (PIA of LA) at its latest Annual Membership Meeting. Spaht has been a member of the PIA of LA Board of Directors since 2001 and is the co-owner of Fife-Spaht Insurance Agency in Gonzales, Louisiana. From 2006 to 2007, Spaht served as the chair of the PIA of LA’s Governmental Affairs Committee. His presidency started on September 1st. Brian Prejean was also elected president-elect of the PIA of LA for the 2008-09 year. Rod Prejean of Brusly, La.-based Rod Prejean & Associates Inc. has served on the PIA of LA Board of Directors since 2005. From 2006 to 2007, he was the PIA of LA’s Governmental Affairs Chair. He was also named Agent of the Year by the PIA of Los Angeles in 2005.
Duane Dimattia was elected secretary/treasurer for the 2008-09 school year. Dimattia, of Baton Rouge’s Dimattia Insurance Agency Inc., was elected to the PIA of LA Board of Directors in 2006. He was the chair of PIA of LA’s Governmental Affairs Committee from 2007 to 2008, and he was named Volunteer of the Year in 2008. From 2004 to 2006, Dimattia served on the board of the Young Insurance Professionals of Louisiana.

Pia Arke (1958-2007) died young and missed out on the increasingly growing international interest in her work. The artist’s dual ethnicity in Greenland and Denmark is central to her primarily photographic oeuvre, and her work consciously and with considerable relevance on Danish Commonwealth relations.
Pia Arke’s art can be viewed as a journey into the areas that, in a broad sense, defined her personality, culture, and the structures that form a person’s sense of belonging. She engaged in what she called “ethnoaesthetics” through her art and writing, and her project represents a significant and early example of post-colonial thought in the Danish context.
With an extraordinary sense of the poetic, she made this nomadic motion among locations, lived life, dreams, and scruples the central aspect of her art, which she wanted to keep up to the view.
