Users of Netgear’s Wireless AC Router Nighthawk (R7800) hardware running firmware versions prior to are being warned about a critical remote code execution flaw that could enable an unauthenticated intruder to take control of the device. Two high-severity vulnerabilities have been found in Nighthawk routers, as well as 21 medium-severity flaws and one low-severity flaw.
Netgear’s PSV-2019-0076 crucial vulnerability affects the company’s market Nighthawk X4S Smart Wi-Fi Router (R7800), which was first released in 2016 and is still available today. Netgear isn’t providing much specifics about the flaw, instead directing consumers to its online support page to download a patch.
The same R7800 router is also vulnerable to PSV-2018-0352, a high-severity post-authentication command injection bug. When using firmware prior to version, the Nighthawk (R7800) router is vulnerable.
The same high-severity command injection vulnerability (PSV-2018-0352) can be found in 29 other Netgear router models, including the D6000, R6000, R7000, R8000, R9000, and XR500. Hello, I have a Nighthawk r7000 router that I converted to DD WRT firmware ( DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/08/14) kongac ) when I first got it and now want to convert it back to Netgear firmware. The DD WRT is not disabled by simply installing and upgrading the Netgear firmware. Greetings

I recently purchased a NetGear R7000 Nighthawk WiFi router that supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks. This router has been fantastic so far, particularly when compared to my old ActionTec WiFi router: it instantly increased the speed of my downloads by 10% and supports 5Ghz WiFi (great for Apple products).
DD-WRT is an open source firmware that can be mounted on a number of routers and offers a wealth of features not found on regular routers. Support for DNSMasq, so I can allocate several hostnames to the same IP address for my Test Webserver, and a built-in VPN were the key reasons for me to give it a try. Not only VPN support (i.e., VPN traffic pass-through) as most routers say! No, we’re talking about a router with a built-in OpenVPN client that keeps the VPN link active.

Note: There is currently no Tomato Firmware for the R7000, but a R7000 update may be available at in the near future. When that one becomes usable, I’ll definitely give it a shot!

Vlan and bridging tutorial – how to set it up on the netgear

I had a T-Mobile CellSpot that I had flashed to stock and enjoyed being able to set the router as the network’s Master Browser. It made file sharing between my Windows machines a lot easier. In any case, I liked the RT-AC68U, but I despise the upright design.
I recently heard that the R7000 could be flashed with XWRT Vortex firmware, so I’ve been on the lookout for a good price. Costco had the NetGear AC1900 Nighthawk for $150. I jumped all over it, and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized the box said “R6900.” WTF is going on here? Anyway, I tried flashing the firmware with: Is it even possible to get XWRT onto this router before I take it back to CostCo? Is it likely that someone has already done it? Apart from the lack of a USB port, are there any other major variations between the R7000 and the R6900?
If you try, your best bet is to use Jernau’s guide in the R7000 (XWRT) thread to flash XVortex’s custom CFE (first two pages it’s in there). For his firmware (and tomato and dd-wrt, for example), this will hard code the computer to mark as a R7000. You should have no problems if the main GPIOs are the same (less the USB 2.0 port). If things go bad, as sfx2000 discussed in your snb thread, R7000 vs. R6900 is a good option (CostCo). .. Differences and 3rd-party FW availability
