Gone are the days of pausing in HD like it’s the most natural thing in the world; now we’re pausing in HD like it’s the most natural thing in the world. So, why would anyone want to pause a movie? We’ve all been fascinated with the concept of finding secret easter eggs, in-jokes, over-analyzing camera shots (you know, for film school), and taking screen grabs of amazing scenes for no reason at all. Often, nuance. So, it’s all about the nuance. But pausing is useful for more than just catching a glimpse of celebrity skin. I mean, there’s not much more, but you get the picture. So join us as we dive into the world of freeze-framing and look at 17 of the most famously paused movie scenes in cinema history. How many are you “responsible” for? Signs for a Birthday Party, No. 17
Did you notice that? Don’t be alarmed: it’s just M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs’ SCARIEST THING EVER PUT ON Video. When you click the mouse out, most gifs “reset.” That is, the gif is either replaced with a generic image or the animation is reset to the beginning. I’d like to create a more seamless “timeout” that allows you to pick up where you left off without having to use a placeholder picture. As an example, consider the following:
Since this example uses simple CSS shapes, I’m not sure if it’s possible with a gif, but there has to be a way to pause the gif on mouse out and restart on mouse over without covering the picture on a looping animation? EDIT: Thanks to @brbcoding’s brilliance, this problem has been resolved! Details on the solution can be found in the following posts or on his blog: http://codyhenshaw.com/blog/2013/12/17/faux-animated-gifs-with-css3-keyframes/.
