What is ss7? an introduction signaling system 7

Signaling System No. 7 (or Signalling System No. 7, SS7) is a series of telephony signaling protocols established in 1975 and used to establish and terminate telephone calls in most parts of the global public switched telephone network (PSTN). Number translation, local number portability, prepaid billing, Short Message Service (SMS), and other services are also provided by the protocol.
SS7 is also known as Common Channel Signaling System 7 in North America (CCSS7). It’s known as C7 (CCITT number 7), number 7, and Common Channel Interoffice Signaling 7 in the United Kingdom (CCIS7). It’s known as Zentraler Zeichengabekanal Nummer 7 in Germany (ZZK-7).
The ITU-Q.700-series T’s guidelines from 1988 describe the SS7 protocol for international use.
1st The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) have standardized many of the national versions of the SS7 protocols (ETSI). The Chinese and Japanese Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) national variants have distinguishing characteristics.

Modern methods of routing telephony traffic with out-of-band signaling are based on SS7 technology. Global interoperability is one of SS7’s main advantages. Most of the world’s public switched telephone network phone calls are developed and terminated using SS7.
SS7 has the potential to enable all carriers in the world to communicate with one another. SS7 technology is used for global billing, toll-free calls, 900-number systems, and overseas cellular call roaming.
However, before you can understand SS7, you must first understand what out-of-band signaling or contact is. It’s the information sharing that doesn’t happen on the same channel as the data transfer, or interaction. It occurs when a separate digital channel – a signaling connection – is formed for the exchange of messages at 56 or 64 kilobits per second.
High-speed circuit switching characterizes SS7…a it’s method of offloading data traffic congestion onto a wireless or wireline (or, DSL – a conventional copper telephone line) digital broadband network.
