The other day, I uninstalled and ran the Removal app. I got it from the website. The problem didn’t go anywhere. I’m currently working on my second tech of the morning. The first one accessed my computer remotely, checked my phone number, and then disconnected us. I never got a response. When I tried to link to chat again, I was told it would take 2 minutes. I waited 20 minutes. I’ve got somebody on the other end of the line now. I hope this has been of assistance. But, once again, thank you for taking the time to assist.
Actually, I’d appreciate it if you could contact your tech. I don’t want immediate resolution. I’d rather take a different route if the two people I talked with illustrate how technical support online would handle it.

My dilemma should have been solved in a better way. It turned out that McAfee had been configured to search archive files and was having difficulties doing so, causing the machine to hang. The solution was to open the Virus Scan Console and open the properties for “On-Access Scan”; then go to Default Processes > Scan Items; and then disable the “Scan Within Archives” function.
