It’s difficult not to note the trend in computing, both in the workplace and at home. Notebooks are becoming thinner and lighter, tablets are gaining traction, and Mini-ITX is transitioning from a niche form factor to a legal, mainstream choice on desktops. We simply have less of a need for large desktops capable of dissipating mountains of heat and supporting several expansion cards as CPU and GPU power consumption is increasingly brought in line and more features are built directly into the chipset.
We’ve had the opportunity to test two small form factor systems from Puget Systems and a fully fanless kiosk-style system from Logic Supply as part of this, and today we have the Lenovo ThinkCentre M92 Tiny on hand. Lenovo packs a healthy amount of versatility into a compact chassis, along with a couple of wrinkles of its own, in our entry-level setup. But, with the M92, did they find the right balance, or did they make the wrong compromises?

This is absolutely fantastic! This is an excellent computer for someone who has limited desk space but needs more than a simple computer. I’ve had no problems with my M92p in over two years of use. What more could you ask for than dependability and adequate computing power?

Lenovo’s ThinkCentre product range includes the M-series of desktops. Lenovo purchased IBM’s Personal Computing Division (PCD) in 2005 and acquired the ThinkCentre desktop brand, which was previously an IBM brand. Lenovo has launched M-series desktops in a variety of form factors, ranging from conventional towers to small form factors and all-in-ones, following its acquisition of IBM’s PCD (AIOs).
Following Lenovo’s acquisition of IBM’s Personal Computing Division in May 2005, the ThinkCentre M52 desktop was announced.
