Qualified UFT paraprofessionals can receive a Bachelor’s degree through the Career Training Program (CTP). The program covers the cost of 3 to 6 credits of undergraduate study each semester at participating colleges or universities. To help with study, two and a half (2.5) hours of Release Time per week are given, as well as a summer stipend.
Financial aid will be used to cover any tuition-related costs for paraprofessionals who receive the Federal Pell Grant or the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) grant. The disparity between the amount of tuition owing and the amount of tuition assistance earned will be billed to the Department of Education by the attending college/university.
1. Please download and complete the CTP Voucher – University/College Name Change Form mentioned above for any college/university name corrections to your voucher. Please give us 48 hours to process your submission.
2. Within 24-48 hours of submitting your application for the Career Training Program, you will receive a confirmation email. In the documents mentioned above, you’ll find a copy of the confirmation email. If you have not received a confirmation email, please contact us as soon as possible at [email protected] or (718) 935-2449.

Administrators who have already met the demands of their administrative and supervisory positions, have shown their willingness to become Principals, and are ready to discuss the decision-making process expected of a school Principal are encouraged to participate in the program. Partnering with a Mentor Principal, attending a series of Specialized Leadership Workshops, and engaging in seminar-related field experiences are all part of the curriculum.
