Mr. Smith’s practice focuses on defending product liability lawsuits involving manufacturers accused of causing personal injury or property harm as a result of a production, design, or warning flaw in a product, while also addressing a wide variety of tort litigation matters. This involves lawsuits involving warranties and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Over the years, Mr. Smith has defended a variety of manufacturers, including car manufacturers, appliance manufacturers, and component part manufacturers whose part is claimed to have caused personal injury or property harm. Mr. Smith has successfully defended lawsuits of damage claims in excess of seven figures in almost every major manufacturing industry, from small to medium-sized manufacturing companies to Fortune 500 manufacturing companies.
Jeff offers a rare mix of financial and energy market perspective with more than 27 years of energy banking and executive search experience. Jeff joined Korn Ferry International’s energy quest practice after a 15-year career in financial services. He left in the late 1990s to help create a boutique search company specializing in the fields of energy and corporate finance. Jeff was hired to open DHR’s Houston office in June of 2005.
Jeff has undertaken several senior level searches for a number of energy clients, including those in the exploration and development, midstream pipelines/MLPs, oilfield services, utilities, and commodity trading industries. He has specialized in taking strategic energy experience to investment banking, private equity, hedge funds, and other commodity based clients, in addition to industry assignments.
Jeff has successfully hired CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CIOs, Treasurers, Controllers, and Company Developers, among other senior roles. Jeff has recently spent a large amount of time helping private equity companies in their quest for executives for their portfolio company investments.

Jeff has built strong and meaningful relationships with his clients over the course of his 21 years in the industry, and he is committed to assisting families in managing the markets. He specializes in serving entrepreneurs’ specific needs of saving and investing for their own retirements, as well as the eventual selling or transition of their company, as a former small business owner. He also enjoys assisting seniors with their families, jobs, and legacy planning.
He takes the time to get to know each client, their favorite causes, and how they like to spend their free time. He seeks to give clients the feeling that he has done his homework. Jeff knows that no two families are alike, and he listens to their goals and desires without passing judgment.
In May 2020, Jeff joined Raymond James and the Coeur Private Wealth Management Group, attracted by the firm’s commitment to placing clients first. Prior to that, he spent five years as a senior financial analyst with Merrill Lynch and 17 years with Edward Jones. He was a dealer principal with Jeff Smith Ford Lincoln Mercury in Colorado before entering the industry. He received the Certified Asset Management SpecialistSM certification after studying at Indiana University in Bloomington. He also holds a geriatric financial planning qualification from the University of California, Berkeley.
He was born on March 30, 1961, in Waterville, Maine, to the late Albert L. Smith and Lorraine (Higgins) Smith of Troy, Maine. Jeff grew up in Waterville and attended the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf in Falmouth, where he received his diploma. He then went on to NTID at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in photography and graphic arts.
Jeff returned to Maine after college and began working in the photo lab industry in Waterville and Bangor. He moved to South Portland after meeting Elissa and started working for 60 Minute Picture, where he became well-known for his photographic skills. In 1997, Jeff and Elissa tied the knot. In 2006, he was hired by Goodwill’s retail division after a short stint at LL Bean. He was the Maine Mall’s safety team leader, and he was very proud of it.
He also studied at Huard’s Dojo in Winslow, where he earned a 3rd degree black belt in Shotokan and Jujitsu. He went on to join Aaron Parker’s Saco River Martial Arts in Bar Mills after moving south and received his 1st degree black belt in Taijutsu.
