Selecting the correct port for your hp printer in windows | hp
This may be because the appropriate ports are blocked by current firewall settings. You can open the ports for network services like mdns and slp in the firewall when you’re in a trusted network environment. Follow the link for a step-by-step guide.
I was able to solve the same problem by downloading and installing the most recent HPLIP from their website. It was two versions (3.19.6) ahead of the one pre-installed in the Ubuntu repositories (3.17), and their installer installed all of the dependencies I needed. Following that, the printer was detected without issue.
I went to Advanced and modified the type of exploration. SLP, Avahi, and mDNS/Bounjour are the three protocols available. Bounjour was the choice that found my printer, an HP Officejet 86xx series (default was SLP).

It’s likely that the firewall is preventing your HP system from telling computers on your network of its location. If the HP software fails to locate the HP system during installation (and you know it’s on the network), or if you’ve already installed HP software and are having issues, try the following: 1. If you’re using a Windows computer, look for an option in the firewall configuration utility to trust computers on the local subnet (also known as the “scope” or “zone”). Computers and devices in your home or office will communicate with each other while staying shielded from the internet by trusting all computers on the local subnet. This is the most straightforward form.
Another common issue is that your firewall does not recognize HP software as trusted software for network access. This can happen if you selected “block” in any firewall dialog boxes that appeared during the HP software installation. If this happens, and you’re using a Windows device, make sure the programs listed below are in your firewall’s list of trusted applications; if any are missing, add them.

My printer is currently connected to my HP-UX 11.11 servers via the same subnet. The printer will be relocated to a new location with a new IP address on a different subnet. To allow communication between my servers and the printer, I believe I will need to send a firewall request. Is there someone who can tell me what the default port(s) are for this? Thank you so much.
If the printer is connected to the network with an HP LAN card or an external HP LAN-to-printer adapter, port 9100 is used. The port 515 is used by almost all non-HP printers and LAN adapters.
You may look up the printer’s model and configuration; depending on the type of printer, it will listen on the appropriate port.
It needs to listen on port 515/tcp for hp-ux default models like rmodel /dumb, and it needs to listen on port 9100 if it’s a jetdirect printer model and using ‘HP Jetdirect software’.
Please use # lpstat -t -d printer name> to verify.
# cat /etc/services | grep printer /etc/services | grep printer /etc/services | grep printer /etc/services | grep printer /etc/services | grep printer /etc/services | grep printer

•UDP port 162 is used to send SNMP traps. When the network is configured to capture trap information, this port can be used. Traps can be captured using a number of SNMP control utilities. Web Jetadmin or Telnet may be used to configure the Jetdirect’s SNMP trap destination IP address and port amount.
•SSL uses the 443/TCP port. When SSL/TLS is allowed, the communication between a Web browser and the Jetdirect Web server is protected by confidentiality, data integrity, and authentication. Other vulnerable communications are ignored, even though ports 80, 280, and 631 are still used for IPP (Internet Printing Protocol).
•For LPD, there is a 515 TCP socket. When printing with LPD (for example, from UNIX ®) or using the Microsoft ®) LPR port monitor, this port can be used. TCP ports 721-731 on the host machine are the source ports, while port 515 is the listen or destination port.
•To search with the Embedded Web Server, use port 9280 TCP (9281 and 9282 for parallel ports 2 and 3 of the multi-port print servers). The Embedded Web Server, when linked to a computer with scanning capabilities, enables a user to search documents remotely.
