Brit Moore, President of The Giving Keys | Photographs by Perry Ogden (pictured above) Personas 17th of April, 2017 Brit Gilmore went to India when she was 17 years old, and it changed her life. She experienced the country’s suffering firsthand while walking through the streets and was moved by compassion. She says, “That’s when I realized I wanted to dedicate myself to impact-driven work.”
Brit Gilmore is now the President of The Giving Keys, a Los Angeles-based social enterprise that offers people transitioning out of homelessness full-time work at a living wage. The Giving Keys is able to provide employment thanks to the proceeds from the necklace sales. The concept is for consumers to welcome the message on their necklace and then pass it on to someone who needs to hear it.
Brit, a 29-year-old Michigan native, moved to Los Angeles after earning a Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising scholarship (FIDM). She spent seven years working in the fashion industry before joining The Giving Keys. She was included in Forbes’ 30 under 30 list this year as a social entrepreneur.

To avoid tarnishing, clean as much as possible with a polishing cloth on any metal pieces. Jewelry should be placed in pouches. Excessive exposure to water and sunshine should be avoided. Before doing dishes, showering, or going to the pool, we suggest taking off your jewelry. When wearing perfume, avoid spraying it on. It’s best not to use a chemically treated jewelry cleaner on your fashion jewelry. Immerse the items in a mild detergent, rinse with water, and pat dry with a soft cloth to clean the jewelry from time to time.
Small, deliberate information will elevate your everyday look. On a small, gleaming chain, a tiny key with an inspiring phrase. Encourage others to do the same. Begin little. The terms BELIEVE, LOVE, and DREAM are all visible.

Turn Key Store Set Up at The Giving Keys HQ The Giving Keys is a jewelry company located in Los Angeles that hires people transitioning out of homelessness by hand stamping inspiring words onto each piece of jewelry. Based on the wishes of the creator, Caitlin Crosby, RFTP collaborated with TGK to promote the concept, build out, and visual merchandising. Her love of light woods, crystals, and natural elements in a boho-cali-chic setting inspired the interior design. The store has two brand-exclusive elements: a “Pay it Forward” or “PIF” wall where visitors can write down their own PIF story and attach it to a large map to display where in the world the experience occurred; and a “Pay it Forward” or “PIF” wall where visitors can write down their own PIF story and attach it to a large map to show where in the world the experience occurred. There’s even a Purpose Tree in the shop. Customers will write what they plan and pledge to do with the word on their new piece of jewelry in this section, explaining how they will work to improve themselves or the world around them. During working hours, you can hear the team at work from the flagship retail store, which is located in the heart of the headquarters office. The act of paying it forward and motivating you to be who you are supposed to be by using the inspiring words as a catalyst and encouraging others to do the same is a powerful reminder of what humanity can be when we choose to be compassionate and nice, according to the brand’s main elements. thegivingkeys.com | @thegivingkeysphotos on Instagram Krista Boyer and The Giving Keys

The Giving Keys is a social impact organization dedicated to putting people to work and ending homelessness. Caitlin Crosby, an actress and singer, started selling keys etched with inspirational words at her concerts before The Giving Keys was officially established. Crosby realized she could make a separate business out of the keys as their popularity increased, and The Giving Keys was born in 2008.
Through a core collection of keys with hand-stamped inspirational words and on-trend fashion pieces that serve as regular reminders of who you are becoming, The Giving Keys collection of jewelry and accessories is designed to inspire you to be your happiest, most authentic self. Many of our antique keys have traveled through significant periods of history and are purchased from all over the world. Materials used in their fashion pieces include plated gold, precious stones, and glass beads, as well as other exclusive statement features. A hand-stamped key featuring one of their core words or a personalized word selected by the artist and inspiring unique significance is signature to many of their designs. The Giving Keys makes initial necklaces and can engrave symbols such as religious symbols, hearts, a semicolon, and Greek letters in addition to words.
