I came up with the solution on my own. Unfortunately, the proxy’s address was added to the list of sites for which passwords were forgotten. I was able to save username and password using Password manager after deleting the proxy address from the list.

How to change proxy settings in firefox

I’m using manual proxies with Firefox on Mac, and I’ve given the proxy address and port. In Firefox->Preferences->Advanced->Network, I’ve enabled the proxy. This proxy needs to be authenticated. However, Firefox does not ask me for the proxy’s credentials. “Proxy Authorization Required” and “Description: Authorization is required for access to this proxy” are the only things that appear on the list.

This question has already been asked, as far as I can tell. The standard response was to use FoxyProxy. However, this did not fix my problem because I was always asked for the username and password the first time I needed to use the proxy in a browsing session.
Make sure the “Remember password for pages” checkbox is checked in the Firefox Preferences dialog’s Security tab. If this option is disabled, Firefox will no longer promise to remember passwords (including proxy and basic auth passwords)
Uncheck and recheck “Know password for pages” if it is already verified but not operating. It’s true. I couldn’t get it to save the proxy credentials on several brand new users (FF66 on Ubuntu; FF created profile on 1st launch) that I set up, but as soon as I unchecked/checked the setting, it worked properly.

Since these simple authentication popups aren’t part of any website, none of the workarounds for popups offered by Selenium work on them. Some reports say that you can monitor these popups with older versions of Selenium and/or Firefox, but this was not a choice for me.
After spending several hours trying different methods to get around this, I eventually came up with a solution that works and can be extended to any website that uses simple authentication, not just proxies. The code below is written in C#, but you should be able to adapt it to any other programming language. The code also necessitates the use of Firefox’s development edition, which enables one to install uncertified extensions.
When a proxy server sends back the status code 407 Proxy Authentication Required, the browser displays the login window to the user, and the user enters their credentials, the proxy server sends back new headers with a key-value pair like this:
