If you use a lot of SELECT statements during insertion, the compression will suffer, unless you just use bulk or delayed inserts.

A data file is also generated by the storage engine. It has a.CSV extension and a name that starts with the table name. A plain text file is used as the data file. When you save data to the table, the storage engine saves it in CSV format to a data file.

A table engine is a type of stationary steam engine in which the cylinder is mounted on top of a table-shaped base with legs that rest on a baseplate that houses the crankshaft bearings. A cross-head is connected to the piston rod, which protrudes from the cylinder top and runs in slides attached to and rising from the cylinder top. The crosshead is connected to the crankshaft by long return rods, which also hold the flywheel in place.
