Fast TIP: UPnP is already allowed on the router by default. If your devices are still having link problems after allowing UPnP, you can check other network settings such as wireless protection and the apps and gaming area. To isolate the problem, try connecting your computer directly to the modem and seeing if it works. If it’s working, check with the device’s manufacturer to see if there are any ports that need to be forwarded or activated on the router.
• Allow Users to Configure – While using the UPnP features, this function enables the user to manually adjust the router settings. To block any or all internet connections, select Enabled. Otherwise, leave Disabled as the default setting.
• Allow Users to Block Internet Connections – This choice allows users to block all connections. If you want to be able to block all internet connections, select Allowed. Otherwise, leave Disabled as the default setting. NOTE: If you want to change Network Address Translation (NAT) from moderate to open for online gaming, you must allow UPnP. Follow these steps to allow NAT on your router: Phase 1: Go to Setup > Advanced Routing on the web-based setup tab.

NAT problems haunt gaming consoles such as the Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3, and WiiTM, resulting in a disappointing gaming experience. Check the settings on your router that lead to NAT issues to solve this problem.
You can need to open ports from time to time due to the router’s built-in firewall.
You can achieve this by using either Port Forwarding or Port Triggering. The NAT Type will move to Open or Moderate until the ports have been successfully opened. As a result, the gaming console can now be used online.

NOTE: If the default password doesn’t work, it’s likely you changed it when you first set up your router with the setup CD. If you’ve forgotten your router’s name, you’ll need to reset it. To do so, use a pen or a paper clip to press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds, then unplug the router from the power outlet for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait for the Power LED to be secure.

I l Enabled by UPnP I l Allows users to configure I l Allow users to turn off their internet connection. Do these enable/disable uPnP access from the WAN side to the router? Is it LAN-based? It’s best to leave uPnP enabled because it aids various devices in obtaining necessary port connections to internet providers and internal devices on the LAN side for gaming and media sharing services and devices.
The extra options, I believe, are intended to enable users to customize their own services on their own side if necessary. If uPnP is activated, all is done automatically, with little to no configuration required. Universal Plug-and-Play (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal Plug and Play)
And they certainly haven’t been.
I’m not sure what can be configured, but connected devices to the router can be disabled by shutting off Wifi radios on wireless devices or disabling the LAN port adapter on PCs.
These features on the router, in my opinion, are ineffective.
You may also search for changes, allow/disable the activity/status LEDs, alter the form of link, enable/disable DHCP, configure static routing, enable and configure VLAN, enable and configure UPNP, and setup remote access from the router settings menu.
Linksys also included a troubleshooting tab that allows you to check the status of the router, share information with others, backup and restore the entire setup, reboot the router, restore the previous firmware update, run diagnostics, and read the logs.
