All topics have been moved to the new forum, which has been locked and archived. On the new forum, you can search for this topic: The username and password for Configuration could not be checked – are they incorrect? – On the new forum, I’m unable to set up Thunderbird or Postbox for email.
Then I installed Roundcube, which resulted in a 500 error. As a result, I set up Squirrel mail. I can successfully login to my email account using the same username and password in Squirrel mail, but the same username and password send me this error in Thunderbird and Postbox. – The setup could not be checked – was the username and password entered incorrectly?
According to the DNS information, the mail server for both incoming and outgoing mail is mail.domain.com. For example, Outlook requires a Port, Encryption process, and a checkbox that says Require Logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
We don’t use SPA because it’s a proprietary Microsoft protocol that I don’t think any of our mail servers support. If you use STARTTLS on port 587, however, all is encrypted by default. If you get a certificate for your mail hostname and install it for Postfix and Doevcot (there are buttons for that when you’re logged in as root and look at a domain’s certificate pages), mail clients won’t alert you about a self-signed certificate (though if your mail client remembers the certificate after the first visit, it’s probably just as safe as an LE certificate).

“Configuration could not be checked – Is the username or password incorrect?” says Thunderbird. I can’t figure out why and where the login fails by looking at syslog, auth.log, and mail.log. Mail.err, on the other hand, does not provide any details.

How to fix the “can’t verify the server” error on the mac mail

I’m using TB on a Macbook Air to receive email from my gmail account. This is something I was able to do successfully on my PC a few weeks ago. I couldn’t believe how easy it was – just a few clicks and it was over! On the Mac, however, I am unable to achieve this using the same steps. “Configuration could not be checked – is the username or password incorrect?” says the error message over and over. I changed my gmail password, assuming it was a password issue (despite the fact that I am careful in keeping track of my passwords), but no luck when I tried again.

How to setup gmail in mozilla thunderbird | configure gmail

I’m attempting to establish a link between a Thunderbird client and my Dovecot server. Ubuntu also has dovecot installed. I know my server works (at least partially) because I see a new file generated in /home/feedback/Maildir/new when I send an email to a user on the server ([email protected]).
I had the same issue where one workstation had the correct username and server settings but couldn’t connect to dovecot one day because it was “Disconnected (no auth attempts)” and had an empty username. (In my case, pop3) Many of the other workstations, which were also running TB, were unaffected. It happened over the weekend after the server received a new certificate.
(I couldn’t add the certificate to the certificate list in TB or add a security exception on that particular workstation; the other workstations already had this server in their TB certificate list; I couldn’t find out why new certificates weren’t added to TB)
