We’re having trouble solely with Comcast/Xfinity home internet users. When they ping our firewall’s WAN interface from their home network, all of the packets are dropped or they complain that the destination is unreachable. The issue is temporarily resolved by rebooting the router. My guess is that the router is experiencing a network-layer problem. Has anybody else had a similar issue with Comcast? Rant: comcast’s extremely slow wifi router
UniFi and their VPN service are used by a variety of small businesses. Comcast has begun to block VPN connections (again), causing those connections to crash. We’ve written a “script” for the employees to follow when calling Comcast, but the results are still mixed. If Comcast wanted to, I’m sure they could make these connections. A couple of queries:
Rent a linode server and set up your own wireguard VPN. After that, you can customize it to use any port you want. I had a lot of issues with PIA (near dial-up speeds, ports being blocked, throttling from my ISP and mysteriously being banned on sites and games I use) Wireguard isn’t resistant to this, but since you’re the only one using your VPN IP, you won’t be pre-banned from websites, there’s no throttling on the Linode server side, and it’s also far cheaper to operate. Although it’s not impossible, I doubt your ISP is blocking traffic on port 1194, so I’m guessing you’re dealing with something else. While I don’t use Unifi, I believe there should be a way to change the port. Look for 1194, which is OpenVPN’s default port, and change it to something else. Test the connection; if it doesn’t function, it’s not your ISP.
Fix “no internet secured” problem in windows 10
I’m curious if someone else has seen this recently. Some of my users are having difficulty connecting to VPNs from their homes using Comcast internet and Comcast-supplied equipment. I found that they are now using 10.0.x.x IP schemes instead of the more popular 192.168.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x. Since we use the 10.x.x.x scheme ourselves, this is incompatible with our settings.
We’re not going to change our IP scheme, as you would imagine, so I’ve told them to contact Comcast and request that the IP set be updated. Why are they configuring home users’ equipment in this manner?
Is there a way to adjust the IP settings without having to depend on Comcast?
I’m aware that their modems / routers can block inbound VPN traffic (among other things), but it would be easier to log into the user’s router and show them how to change it.
I was about to do the same thing.
Since the all-in-one unit Comcast provides blocks VPNs, some of my users’ VPNs were blocked at home.
I’ve had users buy their own modem and router, which has solved the issue.
