I don’t notice any slowdown; in fact, in some of my tests, having the web shield activated is faster than having it disabled.
The Web Shield, in my opinion, is the second most important of all the shields. The File System Shield is obviously the first. The Mail Shield is one that isn’t always necessary, but it’s always a good idea to keep it going just in case.

I don’t see any way to test disabling one shield at a time in the UI to see which one is causing the big lag. The shields used to appear, but they no longer do. I’d have to restart every time, which is inconvenient and ineffective for me. I can’t bear the sluggishness. I need to figure out who is to blame. I turned them all off and was a happy surfer, but I kept getting the message that I wasn’t safe. WHY do I need those shields, and why do they take so long to activate? Others will say that their systems do not slow down, but I am not one of them; my system is unique, and pages will continue to load indefinitely.
