[nine] “All I Could Do Was Cry,” “Trust in Me,” “At Last,” and “My Dearest Darling” are the four singles from At Last! “Stormy Weather,” “A Sunday Kind of Love,” and “I Just Want to Make Love to You” were among the pop and jazz standards covered on the record. 1st MCA/Chess released the album for the first time in 1987, and in 1999, it was digitally remastered and reissued on compact disc with four bonus duet tracks performed with Harvey Fuqua: “My Heart Cries,” “Spoonful,” “It’s a Crying Shame,” and “If I Can’t Have You.” 1st
Etta james – at last – lyrics
Anyone seeking to figure out how today’s pop ballads are sung—the careening melisma, the guttural, quasi-unscripted grunts, and an almost limitless potential for emotion—only needs to look at a few tough, groundbreaking American singers like Bessie Smith, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Alberta Hunter, Aretha Franklin, and Etta James. Jackpot Records in Portland reissued James’ masterwork, At Last!, on limited edition vinyl this past Record Store Day, including the four bonus tracks that first appeared on a CD reissue in 1999. At Last! remains one of the greatest records about isolation ever released, more than a half-century after its release: a languid, jazz-inflected paean to (reluctantly) working it out on your own.
If there’s one thing At Last! is anachronistic about, it’s how insecure James sounds when singing these songs. Insofar as every single theme from the last two decades of pop music can be distilled, it’s the portrayal of—and insistence on—self-empowerment as an infallible road to happiness. These kinds of affirmations will make you feel like you’re in a state of bliss in the moment—I AM THE BEST! NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO TOUCH ME! SUCK A Cock, JERKS!—but finally, you have to wonder if the same thoughts aren’t a truly odious and poisonous force in the world. It can’t be good for entire generations to grow up singing self-aggrandizing anthems that never quite understand the most rewarding and dangerous thing a human being can do: bravely make room for another being in her heart.

James’s rich, earthy voice bridged the difference between rock and roll and rhythm and blues. She was nominated for six Grammy Awards and seventeen Blues Music Awards. In 1993, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; in 1999, she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame; and in 2001, she was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. James was ranked number 22 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, as well as number 62 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. [number four] James is included in Billboard’s 2015 list of The 35 Greatest R&B Artists Of All Time, whose “gutsy, no-holds-barred vocals colorfully interpreted everything from blues and R&B/soul to rock n’roll, jazz, and gospel.” [number six]
Hawkins was born in Los Angeles, California, on January 25, 1938, to Dorothy Hawkins, who was 14 at the time. Despite the fact that her father has never been identified, James hypothesized that she was the daughter of pool player Rudolf “Minnesota Fats” Wanderone, whom she briefly met in 1987. Her mother was often absent from their Watts apartment, having affairs with different men, and James was raised by a number of foster parents, the most notable of which were “Sarge” and “Mama” Lu. Her mother was dubbed “the Mystery Woman” by James. [nine]

At the cost of millions of poor and unemployed people, it is not exclusively determined to force through a narrow monetarist vision of stabilization policy and a technocratically negotiated timetable and plan for the implementation of monetary union.
