Arguments against net neutrality reddit
Is reality real? the simulation argument
[(s) from the OP)] -Edit- To be clear, I am in support of net neutrality, and arguments against it would have much more drawbacks than advantages. When it comes to Net Neutrality, I often learn that ISPs are unable to innovate. This obviously isn’t the case. There’s no reason why your ISP can’t have a rival movie service that doesn’t count against your monthly bandwidth cap. There’s no reason they can’t team up with other internet service providers to provide you with free internet access when you fly to other cities or nations. When I request data and make/keep/use the link, there’s no excuse for an ISP to make my requested data slower or drop my connections. The CMV moderators have added a footnote. On June 11, 2018, net neutrality was repealed. Since 2010, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has mandated that internet service providers (ISPs) transmit content at the same speed regardless of origin. This meant that The Walt Disney Company couldn’t pay a premium for faster download speeds, and your nephew’s blog wouldn’t be delivered late because he couldn’t afford it. Furthermore, unless you pay to upgrade to the “premium” best delivery level, your ISP will not be able to slow down your service.
After former chairman Ajit Pai pressed for a substantial reduction in government regulation of internet providers, the FCC voted to repeal net neutrality.
Now that it’s no longer in effect, it’s critical to comprehend what net neutrality is or was, how we got here, and what could come next.

Net Neutrality has emerged as one of the most critical and urgent issues facing the internet, pitting internet service providers against websites in a fight over how ISPs can handle web content. The laws governing Net Neutrality are continuously evolving, and this article will be updated to reflect the current state of Net Neutrality and the challenges that it faces.
Although the FCC voted to repeal Net Neutrality in December 2017 (see below), the Senate is due to vote on a bill using the Congressional Review Act to overrule the FCC and restore Net Neutrality (CRA).
Senator Ed Markey, a Democrat from Massachusetts, is leading the charge to pass the CRA and reverse the FCC’s decision.
Many websites are turning red in favor of the resolution, with efforts starting on May 9th and continuing until the vote. Fight for the Future, a non-profit group whose goal is to “ensure that the web continues to keep freedom of speech and innovation at its heart,” as well as Demand Progress and Free Press Action, are leading the “Red Alert for Net Neutrality” campaign.

Dropbox, Eventbrite, Reddit, Wikimedia, and Vimeo joined a letter to FCC Acting Chair Jessica Rosenworcel on Friday, urging the agency to restore net neutrality as soon as a third Democrat to the commission, nominated by President Joe Biden, is approved.
The companies wrote, “By using its authority to preserve net neutrality at the federal level, the FCC will help protect families and businesses around the country that rely on high-speed broadband connectivity and help jumpstart our recovery.”
Net neutrality is the concept that internet service providers, such as AT&T and Verizon, should handle all internet traffic fairly, as codified by strict laws prohibiting blocking, throttling, or prioritizing any particular content or traffic. During the Obama administration, the FCC enforced net neutrality by classifying ISPs as “popular carriers” under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934, but that order was overturned in 2017.
Net neutrality supporters are hopeful that their long-fought internet laws will be reinstated now that Democrats control Congress and the White House. “While there are many obstacles to fixing the internet, restoring net neutrality is a critical first step toward the much wider internet reform that we need,” the companies wrote to Rosenworcel on Friday. “There is no need to postpone its reinstatement any longer once the FCC is operational.”
