Download PC Repair Tool to automatically identify and patch Windows errors. Acrobat Reader DC will sometimes fail to open a PDF file and display the following error message – Adobe Acrobat Reader was unable to open the PDF file because it was either not a supported file form or was damaged. It’s most popular among users who regularly use Microsoft Print to PDF to convert documents to PDF. See what you can do to solve the problem as soon as possible.
Previously, Acrobat items did not search for extraneous bytes before the percent PDF-header. As a result, it will open a PDF file if the percent PDF-header begins within the first 1024 bytes of the file. There is, however, a change in the situation now. The new updates have enhanced security by requiring more rigorous PDF-header parsing. As a result, PDFs that do not begin with the ‘ percent PDF-‘ header are prevented from opening, and the error message mentioned above appears.

How to fix adobe reader pdf file opening problem | pdf

I found that all of my PDF icons changed to Affinity Picture after upgrading to Catalina. That issue was resolved when I went back in to change the default to Preview, but now nothing is opening at all. The PDF does not open in Preview. I can no longer open PDF files. Is anyone else having this problem, and if so, do you have a solution?
The same thing is happening to me. In both Preview and Acrobat, I am unable to open any PDF files. Adobe Acrobat Reader was unable to open ‘filename.pdf’ because it is either not a supported file form or the file is corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment that was not properly decoded). The file “filename.pdf” could not be opened in preview mode. It could be corrupted, or it could be in a file format that Preview doesn’t know.
Have you tried using Adobe Reader (which is free) to see if the PDFs would open? Acrobat Pro is what I use to open PDFs, and it works perfectly (after Catalina). If Adobe Reader opens them, it’s possible that there’s a problem with Preview reading PDFs.
Ok, I’m not sure what’s going on. All was fine until last night when I installed Catalina, and now I can’t get Preview to open documents. I’ve rebooted many times and still have the same problem. To make it worse, my backup pdf viewer was Adobe Acrobat Pro X, which was also disabled by the update (it was 32-bit, I assume). So, does anyone know of a fine, free PDF app that will also allow me to fill out pdf forms? many thanks

Eleanor, in this situation, the issue is that the document you have is not a PDF at all. It’s a collection of Mac apps and applications. To get the details to load, double-click on the DMG file in Finder.
