The centipoise (cP), which is equal to 0.01 Poise, is the most widely used unit for dynamic viscosity (P). This unit is named after Jean Léonard Marie Poiseuille (1797-1869), a French physicist who collaborated with Gotthilf Hagen on the well-known Hagen-Poiseuille law, which governs laminar flow through pipes.
